Bob will get a margarita or two in your belly and help guide you. We'll have maps and guides to help you get around this easy-to-navigate city. You're only a block from the ocean, so enjoy the sand in your toes if you'd like.
Be back at De Cantaro at 4:30pm -- the van will take you up the hills of Conchas Chinas to our incredible Villa! Your room will be ready with your luggage waiting, and you'll have a couple hours before dinner to relax, nap, shower, swim, or cocktail.

By the end of this walking tour, you'll feel confident navigating around Vallarta and have a good understanding of the city's layout.
First things first, when you visit this wonderful town come and enjoy a relaxed stroll along the Puerto Vallarta Malecon in the historic downtown area. It's a must-visit location that's lovely both day and night, plus it is also where most of the daytime and nighttime action takes place.
We will start at Our Lady of Guadalupe church, the most famous cathedral in Vallarta, and you will get to quickly tour this 100-year-old church. We will then walk through a small town square and on to the center of the Malecon
Walking along the Malecon - that some people call "boardwalk" - is a feel-good area right on the oceanfront and it's a fast and easy way to really understand what PV, and even Mexico, is all about. The colors, the sounds, and aromas, all take you under their spell and you can end up just walking around for hours, enjoying a great breakfast, lunch or dinner, eating and drinking here and there, grabbing souvenirs, shooting photos. Time will just fly by, as it does when you are really enjoying yourself.
"El Malecon" - considered by many the best thing to do in Puerto Vallarta Mexico - is now closed to vehicle traffic, so you can take a relaxing stroll along this sightseeing paradise walkway with great scenery, beautiful sculptures and friendly people, without having to worry about taxis, cars or buses (do take the bike path into account though).
The Romantic Zone in Puerto Vallarta is a must-visit destination. This lively and colorful area is popular among tourists, expats, and locals for its relaxed atmosphere and plethora of amenities. You'll be delighted to find a high concentration of restaurants and bars here, making it the perfect spot to grab a bite or sip a margarita.
The area is bustling with activity and brimming with Mexican charm. As you wander around the Romantic Zone, don't forget to explore the many shops that dot the streets. (You’ll see Pride Flags everywhere!) Whether you're in the market for swimwear, Talavera pottery, jewelry, or just a cup of coffee, there's something for everyone.
During this two-hour tour, we will visit some of my favorite shops! You'll meet Hilda whose shop features the best alejibres! (Alejibres are the spirit-animals that connect us to the "other side." If you've seen the movie "Coco", you'll remember the winged tiger!) The fine-line painted details will blow you away. (I almost always walk away with a piece from Hilda's shop!)
For those who prefer more wearable art, I'll take you to "Fungus Fou", my favorite avant-garde artist who has the most unique T-Shirts in Vallarta! If you love skull art, Lucha Libre wrestling, or unique spins on Star Wars and Spongebob, this tiny shop is for you!
A couple doors down is a lovely stained glass shop that our guests love! And don't worry about getting those purchases home; the owner will build you a custom wooden box to carry your glass on your flight home!
Even nudists love swimwear and I have a wonderful shop that you'll love! Full coverage or skimpy, you're going to find something that will make you feel sexy and seen!
For those who want more traditional Huichol art, we'll stop at Peyote People for remarkable beaded art. Huichol beaded art is a form of traditional Mexican art created by the Huichol people, who are an indigenous group living in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains of western Mexico. The art is made using small colorful beads, often arranged in intricate patterns and designs, which are pressed into a layer of beeswax covering a wooden object or board. The Huichol people use this art form to express their spiritual beliefs and cultural heritage, with many designs featuring symbols and images that represent their deities, animals, and nature. Today, Huichol beaded art is highly valued by collectors and art enthusiasts around the world.
We'll take a stop at a Mexican Pharmacy which will be very eye-opening for the Americans in our group. Mexican pharmacies are often more affordable than those in other countries, which is why many tourists choose to purchase their medications there.It is important to note that in Mexico, some medications that require a prescription in other countries may be available over-the-counter at pharmacies. However, it is still advisable to consult with a doctor or pharmacist before taking any new medication, and to ensure that any prescriptions are filled correctly and legally.
You'll then be free to wander to explore and shop! (I will be stopping at Doria's Tablecloth and Linen shop if you want to follow along. I always find beautiful Otomi embroidery that I adore, as well as affordable tablecloths that brighten up my tables!)
What better way to get acquainted with the Mexican cuisine ingredients and recipes than learning from the chef of one of the favorite restaurants in Downtown Puerto Vallarta? Apart from delighting the palate of diners that visit his venue, Gaby’s Restaurant head cook, Julio Castillón, offers a unique experience to those interested in immersing themselves in the world of traditional gastronomy: cooking classes for children and adults.
The dynamic of the class goes as follows: first, the chef and his guests go to the Emiliano Zapata traditional market, where they select and buy all the ingredients necessary for the recipes: masa harina to make tortillas, chicken, onions, tomatoes, coriander, avocados, guanábana, among others. Later, at Gaby’s Restaurant patio, they prepare the dishes alongside Julio Castillón. Guacamole, tamales, Mexican sauces, enchiladas and fresh water are only a few of their creations.
